Midnight Special review will be like a review of a supernatural movie with horror elements that are not both at the same time.

It is about a father and a son who are on the lam. They are also pursued by a cult who wants to exploit the child’s special powers.

The director and the writer in chair is Jeff Nichols, with actors like Michal Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kristen Dunst.

Midnight Special is not a special movie by any means. However, it is packed with incredible performances and some real intense moments that you won’t see coming.

As the Midnight Special review needs to agree, it is worth watching and spending your time one. By no means it is a bad movie either.

Now let us go ahead and digest what parts are good and what parts are not so good after watching the trailer.

Midnight Special Trailer

As I mentioned in the very beginning of Midnight Special review. This is not quite a single genre movie, but has aspects from a few kinds, and focuses mainly on the thriller and sci-fi aspects. However, there isn’t any dominant one.

In simpler terms, there is a lot to like about this movie, and it is great from the start to,… well, up until the third act. When it gets there it disappoints you.

The turn it takes is absolutely unexpected. So unexpected that no one would think it would end this bad.

It’s almost like they have worked so hard and put everything together from act 1 to 2, and when transitioning to the third, they probably were like: okay we have done good enough off of work now we can rest. I guess I could stop the Midnight Special review at this point then hey.

Its tone is beautiful and keeps the audience guessing at every point though. There are a few extremely tense moments with some great scenes. It reminded me of the style directors used to film thrillers back in the 70s to the 80s.

It has a strong emphasis on the family and family bond. The characters are strong. Take hold in your mind from the start. Thus, the acting.

Acting is great, Micheal Shannon also puts on a great performance. It is hard to not enjoy such acting. Also, the production design, interior wardrobe choices, well in short the directing which is great as well.

Midnight Special Movie Review

Sure, it is well-directed. Written, and acted, and so much more. But why is it Midnight Special? While writing the Midnight Special review, I kept wondering about the name.

Of course it is hard to find the reason, but many movies usually have a relation or a meaningful name. One when you understand, makes you go, “ohh, this is why”.

That didn’t happen in the Midnight Special review. So, that and more questions like the Midnight Special plot kept me asking questions.

I will get to answer those questions you and my mind have been asking in just a second. Especially if you were looking for a Midnight Special explained.

Before we move on, it is important to mention that this is a great movie for discussion. Because it has all the good parts and aspects of a good movie while it fails at the fundamentals of it.

That is why having a friend who likes to discuss and talk about movies, would be the best thing to grab with to watch the movie.

The movie doesn’t lack a single plotline or direction. But perhaps was this on purpose or something that came out as a mistake later?

It’s not all about cult or government bs or even the family running away. But not one thing it’s definitely about the family on the run as well.

Midnight Special Review

I have never done an explanation of the movies, especially of the old ones like Midnight Special 2016. But this one has an ending that even explanations won’t do it fair. However, an attempt we must make.

I don’t want to spoil anything, even though it is an old movie, and there are a bunch of other videos explaining it. My hint would be that they wanted to launch a cinematic universe.

Because every other studio and producer wants to launch a cinematic universe to make as much money as possible. It is clear the directors and the producers wanted to do the same, except with a lower budget.

This is why the ending of Midnight Special 2016 doesn’t quite work. Like I mentioned just a little bit earlier, it is a great film to discuss. One of the people whose review I heard said he loved the ending.

So much so, that he started conceptualizing how his son could have that talent and he doesn’t. When it comes to leaving a cliffhanger, they did leave one heck of a good one that Midnight Special review won’t get any deeper into discussing it.

Or else I would have to talk about what is the point of people who like it, and why. Explain why it is not that great but an alright movie which I believe I already did enough.

To Wrap Up

Let me just wrap this up by saying that it is a decent movie from start to until the third act. It is fundamentally fugitives on the run type of movie.

Midnight Special cast gives their best, and you can see how good the acting, and directing and other aspects of the movie is.

The best part of the film Midnight Special is that it is a great case study. Also, great for discussing, because it is clear how hard the filmmakers tried and some of the fruits of their labor are easily noticed, while some remain undetected.
